my closet audit

I took my own advice and got down and dirty with my closet this weekend. It really is a daunting task, even for me. Surprisingly, I still fit into a lot of my clothing from last Fall and Winter. What was also surprising to me is that I still had items with the tags on them waiting to go to alterations. I tried them on and decided they are definitely worth the trip to the tailor and have set them aside to take in this week, I promise. I also discovered some straight-leg “crop” pants that I am having hemmed to the knee so I can wear them with my sexy high-heeled-make-my-calves-look-so-tiny leather boots that I purchased at Macy’s at the end of the season last year! They were one of the best purchases I have ever made. They look great with jeans, dress pants, skirts, and dresses. Even though I bought them while on sale, I felt a little guilty at first since I was only shopping for new Spring items, but they make every outfit I put together look even better…a great investment.

My Fall wish list…
1. to-the-knee black flat boots (preferably some with cool straps/buckles)
2. a black cardigan (a replacement from last season)
3. a brown cardigan (sounds boring but will add to any outfit)
4. a pin striped pencil skirt (in the warm color family)
5. 2-3 dresses (easy to throw on with a pair of boots and go)
6. black pants (to wear with flats)
7. a suit jacket (to mix with jeans, pants, and skirts)
8. colored, textured, tights (very hot right now) to wear with all my skirts and dresses
and last but not least,
9. a scarf (I hate a cold neck!)

Tina’s Tip: Have the front pockets in your pants cut out and sewn shut. If your pockets create a line across your thighs. like most of mine do…get rid of them (the pockets). This will make your pants lay smoother and create a seamless, longer leg line. At 5’2″, I need all the help I can get. If I am having multiple alterations done at the same time, my tailor (JS Alterations in Cherry Creek North) does not charge me for this. Otherwise, it can cost $10-$15, depending on where you go.
