I, like many people, live paycheck to paycheck and know it can be a daunting task and appears expensive to think about purchasing a whole new wardrobe, but it doesn’t have to be if you know where to shop and what to invest in. You can purchase signature pieces that are timeless and versatile that will take you far. Here’s a few guidelines to get the most bang for your buck!
1. Go for Versatile: every piece of clothing you purchase should coordinate with at least two items you already own.
2. Temperature Control: find “3-season” fabrics such as tropical wool, micro-fiber, and gabardine.
3. Quality = Value: purchase the best quality garment you can afford- well-made clothing will look and fit better and last longer.
4. Be Timeless: buy classic pieces that will not go out of style and use accessories to keep up with the trends (i.e. dressy boots in a hot color, a fabulous new purse, stylish eye glasses, scarves, belts and fashionable jewelry).
5. Care and Maintenance: follow washing instructions carefully- Dry Clean (if you have to) or hand wash your delicate pieces (using a dryer is what puts the most wear and tear on your clothing- hang items or lay flat to dry when possible).
6. Cost per Wear: calculate the number of times you plan on wearing an item before purchasing. The more you think you will wear it, the better the investment.
7. Fit: try on EVERYTHING before buying anything. We look and feel our best when our clothing fits us perfectly. We all have that favorite item of clothing that makes us feel amazing every time we put it on. Wouldn’t it be great if everything in our closets fit us like that? It can, you just have to be patient and take time to try everything on.
Tina’s Tip: Don’t get wrapped up in the size of your clothing. If you try something on and it isn’t quite right- go up or down a size. Nobody will be looking on the inside of your pants except you. If you want- cut the tags out…just make sure you to purchase the items first! It’s not about what size you are that matters, it’s all about the fit.
