Miss Teen Denver Pageant

Day one: the interview. I was honored to hold interviews for 2 different age groups: 7-9 and 10-12. Along with 3 other judges, we interviewed 56 young ladies and asked them a variety of questions. We were all so impressed that they could even walk in a room in front of four adults they’d never met and answer unscripted questions. Here’s a few of the questions asked:

What do you like to do with your friends on the weekends?
If you could be any animal in the world- what would it be and why?
If you could describe yourself in 1-3 words, which words would you choose?
What are you passionate about?
If you were a color- what color would you be?
Who is your hero?
Why did you decide to be in the pageant?
What is the one thing you can’t live without?

My favorite question/answer of the day: we asked a 7 year old to describe herself in one word, she thought about it, looked at us and said, “Flowers.” Of course!

Day two: the pageant. Each of the age groups competed in three areas: casual wear, formal wear, and a rehearsed question and answer. During the casual wear a lot of the contestants showed their interests in their attire. We saw everything from sports, dancing, music, and hanging out. All of the young ladies showed off their fancy flair with the formal wear competition and the question and answer segment. Next, all of the scores were tallied and the top ten girls with the highest combined scores thus far were gathered on stage. The final step- the Top Ten: unrehearsed question and answer of random questions. This really gave the contestants the opportunity to show their stage presence and confidence.

All of the young ladies did an amazing job and I was truly honored to be a part of a pageant with a purpose- judging inner beauty.
